THE casket-lowering equipment could not manage Tsekeleke’s coffin, and about 20 men had to be called in to help get it into the grave.
It took those men about 12 minutes to get the job done.
Everyone knew that Anthony “Tsekeleke” Motaung was a big man.
But the kwaito star, who was laid to rest on Saturday, was a very energetic artist before illness took its toll on him.
The Fatty Boom Boom hit-maker was laid to rest at Mooifontein Heroes’ Acre cemetery on Saturday after a service held at Dominion Life Cathedral International Church in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni.
When it was time to lower his coffin, some men had to get inside the grave to support the coffin while those outside lowered it.
“Lala ngokuthula, Tsekeleke,” said the men after they had finally managed to lower his coffin.
Everyone agreed Tsekeleke was a man among men.
His family was called on to pour soil over his coffin before the grave was filled.
Relatives, friends, neighbours, government officials and a few celebrities who attended the funeral all described Tsekeleke as a loving person.
Kwaito legend Eugene Mthethwa of Trompies fame said: “I will forever miss him for being the wonderful person he was.”
Prophet Paseka “Mboro” Motsoaneng headed the service, as Tsekeleke had started attending his church before he died.
Many EFF members attended the funeral as well, since Tsekeleke had joined the party in his last days.
Tsekeleke died at a Vosloorus hospital last Tuesday after complications relating to diabetes.
