An armed response officer died in hospital after being shot by armed thugs.
The guard was reacting to a home robbery in Maxwell Avenue, Bluff, Durban, when he was shot by thugs armed with rifles on Monday night.
News, Accidents, Robberies & Incidents reports that the guard succumbed to his injuries in ICU at St Augustine’s hospital after being shot in the pelvis by rifle-wielding robbers as they fled the scene of the home invasion when he interrupted them.
His company, Blue Security said it was devastated by the loss of of their guard, who had faithfully served Blue Security and local residents for the past three years.
Blue security managing director Henk van Bemmelen said: “We are absolutely devastated to announce that the officer succumbed to his injuries while in hospital after putting up a brave fight. He was a man who took his work seriously with dedication and commitment and who put his life on the line and lost it while protecting the innocent. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family who has lost a husband, a father and a provider. We trust that the police will bring swift justice to the perpetrators who have robbed us all of a hero."
The video shows armed men arriving at a certain house in two cars.
Then the first car drives into the property after the thugs forced the gate open.
The second car stops right at the gate and when the security car arrives the two men armed with rifles jump out of the car and goes straight to the security guard's car.
They then shoot at the driver and flee the scene.
