accreditation

COPS had to run for their life in Hanover Park in the Cape Flats on Tuesday, after a mob attacked them and their van.

Cops responded to the alleged killing of a gangster reportedly in Soetwater Court in Blomvlei Road in Hanover Park.

The Deputy Minister of Police Bongani Mkongi said he will not back down in fighting gangsters in the Cape Flats after cops were moered in Hanover Park on Tuesday afternoon.

Video footage has been circulating on social media showing cops running for their lives as the angry mob started stoning their van.

Residents who attacked the cops were also allegedly injured in the incident.

"An 18 year old man was shot and killed in Erie Court, Hanover Park by a suspect who fled the scene. Police reacted and in the process a suspect was arrested who was sought for another murder case," Police spokesperson Andre Traut said.

However, Khaya Yozi the ANC Member of Safety and Social Service Committee called for stern measures to be taken against gangsters.

"We call upon the Police Ministry to do an operation that will get rid of all the gangsters in and around Hanover Park. The situation we have just witnessed today do not paint a good picture of our city and country." said Yozi.

Residents told Daily Sun they do not have confidence in cops, because corrupt cops endanger their lives.
