IN this village, 10 married women are walking around with extra broad smiles.
And it’s all because their husbands have been cooking up a storm in the kitchen!
But it’s not muthi or the bedroom that did the trick.
The 10 proud husbands and dads of Phakama Village, near Komatipoort, Mpumalanga, have been taking over the cooking duties for seven months now, and it’s all thanks to an initiative started by Bishop Sandros Sambo (67) of the Galilee Apostolic Church.
And now they want men across Mzansi to see that it’s a normal thing to do – and they should try it too.
Bishop Sambo told Daily Sun he’s been cooking for his wife and family for as long as he could remember.
“I cook every day at my home. I’m not doing it to spoil my wife, I’m the head of the family. It’s not written anywhere that a man cannot cook for his wife. Men should get rid of the mentality that there’s a job for men and a job for women. That is just a stereotype.”
Bishop Sambo said he invited men from his church to teach them the art of cooking on Saturdays and Sundays.
The men have not only mastered cooking skills, but have also got more respect and admiration from their wives.
Petros Nkosi (66) said: “Cooking is hard work. Women should be helped by their men all the time. It also helps husbands and wives to become closer, especially young couples.”
Merriam Hlongwane (46) said: “My husband has changed from being just head of the family to being my best friend.”
