Machena High school pupils in Limpopo were prevented from writing their final exams on Thursday when two neighbouring villages fought over the construction of a road.
The two Giyani villages, Gon’on’o and Hlaniki, fall under Chief Hlaniki.
Their fight started over the appointment of a Project Steering Committee for the construction of the road in Hlaniki.
Machena High school is situated in Gon’on’o village and community members from this village reiterated by preventing pupils from Hlakini village from writing their final exams.
However, police and School Governing Body members worked hard to ensure grade 12 learners wrote their final examinations.
Grade 10 learner Valentine Mavasa from Machena High school said he was greatly disturbed .
He said up to far he is clueless about what is going to happen since members of Hlaniki community, where the school is located, are not allowing to go to school.
Limpopo provincial Department of Education spokes person Sam Makondo said Grade 12 learners were not affected by the disruption on Thursday because all 101 Grade 12 learners at the school managed to write their grade 12 examinations.
Makondo said it is only the lower grades that were affected and the department will set a new date which all learners will write their final examinations.
He said the situation was back to normal on Friday.
