THUGS struck in the early hours of Wednesday morning, stealing stock from a shop in the small town of Sterkspruit.

The angry shop owner, Muhammed Shamim, told Daily Sun the security guard outside his shop was overpowered at about 1am.

The tsotsis broke through the security gate and took stock before fleeing on foot.

They took cold drinks, sweets, snacks and other items valued at about R20 000.

“I was called by security to say that thugs had broken in. This place is not safe for business as tsotsis always hang around here,” said Muhammed.

It isn’t the first time he has been robbed and a case was opened after the first robbery.

“Police investigated but the thugs were never found,” he said.

Muhammed said he hopes this time around cops will catch the thugs.

“I hope the police will do their best to arrest these criminals. This is painful for me because I keep on losing money and stock.”

Police spokeswoman Captain Ursula Roelofse said: “A case of theft has been opened and the police will work with various units to investigate.”
