THERE were reports today of another collapse at the Lily Mine in Louisville, outside Barberton where three mine workers have been trapped underground for more than week.

Jacaranda News reported that several sources had confirmed the collapse, however no further details were immediately available.

A loud bang was reportedly heard last night.

A News24 Correspondent yesterday reported that new technology is being used to loosen a huge rock weighing between 20 and 30 tons that is hampering the rescue operation of the three miners.

Vantage Goldfields chief executive Mike McChesney said rescue workers would use vibration technology to loosen the rock.

Pretty Nkambule, Solomon Nyarende and Yvonne Mnisi have been trapped in the mine since last week Friday.

Currently, about 550 tons of debris and rock, of an estimated total of 20 000 tons was being moved each day.

John Sibiya, the Mpumalanga secretary for the Association for Mineworkers and Construction Union said, that there had been no new developments since rescue teams found a tyre near the container.

On Thursday, he said the tyre provided a glimmer of hope of finding the three, but there were still rocks blocking the way.
