THEY still can’t use their toilets three years after they were erected.

Councillor Mncedisi Gojela told Daily Sun that Makana Municipality does not have funds to finish the project.

Grahamstown’s extension 6 residents are gatvol of waiting. It will take another year before they can use the toilets.

Nomathamsanqa Ntsendwana (56) said the flushing toilets were built in 2014.

“Some were given keys to the toilets but were told not to use them. We were not given any reason why.”

She said they are tired of waiting and some people have started to use the toilets without running water. The old pit toilets have not been cleaned by the municipality since 2013 despite our reporting it. We are struggling as we walk long distances to relieve ourselves.”

Nomathamsanqa said she had a funeral at home and had no choice but to use the toilet. “I had to break open the door. This puts our lives at risk. These people violate our rights.”

Gojela said the rocky area makes it impossible for the construction company to finish. “The municipality is still looking for funds to complete the project.”
