THE weekend saw a number of road accidents in Gauteng, many leading to fatalities and serious injuries.

On Saturday, three people were killed, including a two-year-old boy, and six others were injured after a head-on collision on the R558 near Sebokeng, south of Joburg.

ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said paramedics arrived on the scene to find two mangled vehicles.

“Paramedics discovered the bodies of a woman and two-year-old boy trapped in the one car while the body of a man was found trapped in the second vehicle. Unfortunately, all three had already succumbed to their multiple injuries.”

He said five other people, including a 12-year-old child, were found on the scene.

Paramedics treated the patients and provided advanced life support interventions while the critically injured child was airlifted by ER24 helicopter to hospital for urgent treatment.

Three people were killed in a collision on the R558 near the N1 in Sebokeng.

Five people were injured yesterday morning when a taxi crashed through the barrier and into a tree off the N12 near the Rondebult turnoff in Boksburg.

Paramedics found that five passengers had sustained injuries.

They were treated and transported to hospital.

A man, believed to be in his 50s, was seriously injured late last night when a taxi and car collided head-on on the M18 in Irene, Centurion.

The driver and passenger of the taxi weren’t injured.

In Vereeniging, 11 people were injured on Saturday morning when a panel van crashed into the side of a taxi at the Houtkop and Van Riebeeck Road intersection.
