WHEN the cops didn’t arrest a man who assaulted her, Lumka Jacobs didn’t give up.
She posted about her ordeal on social media and got the attention of Police Minister Fikile Mbalula, who sent the cops to see her!
The 26-year-old from Randburg, Joburg told Daily Sun she was beaten by a man she thought was a friend in Bryanston last Saturday.
She said she was playing games with friends at his house when an argument started.
“I don’t remember what set it off. He pushed a guy standing between us who was trying to calm him down and then hit me in the face with a huge glass,” she claimed.
Lumka said she remembered passing out and when she regained consciousness, she asked the man to allow her to leave as the door was locked. She said one of his friends eventually opened the door.
Lumka said she ran to the neighbours to ask for help and the Sandton cops were called to the scene.
“They didn’t arrest him. It was only five days after I posted on social media that the minister heard my cry.”
After Mbalula asked for Lumka’s contact information on Twitter, police were sent to see her at Helen Joseph Hospital in Auckland Park and a case was opened.
Constable David Mothapo said a case of assault was opened at the Sandton cop shop. The matter is still under investigation. He said the suspect is still at large.
Mothapo said they’re also investigating allegations that Sandton cops refused to open a case.
