WHEN David Moleko (31) was buried on Saturday, mourning turned into chaos.

The funeral at Mabopane Cemetery, Tshwane, led to the Molefe Makinta Highway coming to a standstill.

As the coffin was being lowered into the ground, the hymn was drowned out when taxi drivers insulted the dead man and poured booze into the grave.

They called his mum and family members “whores”. Others told the dead man there was no punani in heaven. They called him a womaniser and the son of a slut!

David died almost two weeks ago in a train accident. He had just left the taxi industry to work for a hygiene company.

His friends in the taxi industry wanted to celebrate his life, but a group of drunk men took over from the priest.

The family could only look on as unruly men almost forced David’s car- washer into the grave, starting a fist fight. At that point the priest got into his car and left.

Neighbours, relatives and friends were not given the chance to scatter soil over the coffin as the taxi drivers forcefully took the shovels away from them.

After the burial the taxi drivers were not ready to go home. They pumped loud music from their vehicles as young women started dancing and cooler boxes came out. They even danced on the road.

They later joined the family in Hebron before going to the after-tears party in Mabopane.
