MEMBERS of this taxi association are living in fear.
They are now wondering who’s next! This comes after Vusi Dlamini, chairman of the Ivory Park Taxi Association in Ekurhuleni, was gunned down on Tuesday as he was going to the association’s offices.
He died on the scene after several bullets were pumped into his white Golf GTI.
On 3 May Dumisani Mlambo, grievances chairman of the association, was shot and killed in Tembisa, also in Ekurhuleni.
In April one person was killed and four others were seriously injured in a shooting incident thought to be because of the fighting between the Ivory Park Association and the Alexandra Taxi Association over Mall of Africa routes.
Moses Matlaila, former deputy chairman of the association, was shot last year.
But some residents say the fight may be about leadership of the association.
“We hear that they are fighting over who should be in power. It’s a question of money and power,” said a resident.
Sam Sibisi, secretary of the association, said they are in the dark about what led to the killing of Vusi.
“We are shattered that we are losing members in such a short space of time.”
He said Vusi was coming back from the gym and heading to work when he was attacked. His assailant fled after shooting him.
Vusi’s family told Daily Sun that they are still trying to get answers. Lindiwe Dlamini said her brother’s killing took them by surprise.
“My brother was a humble man who hated violence.”
Vusi is survived by his fiancee and three kids.
Captain Manyadza Ralidzivha confirmed a murder case has been opened at Ivory Park cop shop but no arrests have been made.
