GATVOL residents took the law into their own hands on Sunday and necklaced a man suspected of killing three people.

The 27-year-old victim had recently come out of prison after serving an eight-year sentence and according to residents of Kanana in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni, he almost immediately went back to his evil ways.

Community members claimed he went on the rampage on Sunday, robbing six people and shooting three dead. Later that day, residents went on the hunt for the suspect and found him hiding in his girlfriend’s shack.

He was apparently moered by angry community members. After the beating, the crowd put a tyre around his neck and set it alight. When cops arrived on the scene they were apparently chased away by residents.

They were only allowed back after the suspect had died. Rabie Ridge Police Station confirmed that a case of murder had been opened. Spokesman Captain Aubrey Mooapeloa said the cops didn’t support the actions of the community.
