THE survivors of the Life Esidimeni Marathon Project were still being moved from one facility to another in September.

Sibusiso Sikhakhane yesterday told the Life Esidimeni arbitration hearing in Parktown, Joburg, that his brother Mduduzi went missing for 10 days two months ago.

Luckily, he was found to have been moved from the Waverley Care Centre to Sterkfontein Hospital in Mogale City.

“Two weeks ago I went to visit him and his health has improved at Sterkfontein,” said Sibusiso.

Mduduzi was one of the patients moved to Rebafenyi NGO from a Life Esidimeni facility by the Gauteng health department.

After the NGO was found to be operating without a valid licence, he was moved to Lenasia Clinic.

Sibusiso said: “He was hungry and losing weight while he was in Rebafenyi.”

Merriam Moyane, whose mentally ill son died after being moved, told the hearing she was a month away from retiring to look after her son when she heard he had died.

Her son Thabo died last August at Tshwane’s Mamelodi Hospital.
