A BITTER war over an RDP house has led to the children of the late owner being kicked out onto the street!

Residents of Tshepisong in Kagiso, Mogale City are furious that Kgomotso Chidi (33) and her siblings are being evicted from their mum’s house.

Kgomotso told Daily Sun: “My mum received the RDP with the title deed in 1998.

“Before she got the house we lived with my stepfather, in Vlakfontein. He moved into the RDP with us and we lived together for many years. During that time Michael said most of his relatives were dead and those who were still alive lived far away.”

After their mum, Veronica, died in 2014 Kgomotso and her siblings continued to live with their stepfather.

“But in March he became very ill and we were approached by a woman who claimed to be his sister.

“We were surprised because he had never told us about her,” said Kgomotso.

She said the woman, who told them she was from Zondi in Soweto, started visiting regularly until our stepfather died in July. After his funeral the woman told the family the house had been sold. She told Kgomotso and her siblings to get out of the house.

Gauteng Human Settlements spokesman Keith Khoza said: “If the owner of an RDP dies, the house must be allocated to the children as they are the rightful beneficiaries.

“It is illegal to sell an RDP. Only the owner who holds the title deed can sell the house.”
