PASTOR Shadrack Mabasa believes the song In Your Presence by Benjamin Dube saved him from a snake.

The pastor from Back to The Cross Ministries in Thohoyandou, Limpopo said he was listening to the song in his car on Friday morning when he had a strong feeling that he needed to stop and put in petrol.

When he stopped at Saselamani Village, Malamulele, Limpopo and opened his car door, a snake came sliding out.

“When that song played, heaven began to open and the Holy Spirit touched me,” he said. “When I stopped the snake’s cold eyes were staring at me.”

He believes the evil metre-long snake was just waiting for the right moment to strike.

Pastor Mabasa told the People’s Paper he had been to a meeting with traditional leaders at Xikundu Village.

“After filling up with petrol I saw the tail of a snake behind the back tyre. Then it moved to the front.”

A young man, Sifelani Chauke (30), beat the snake to death with a piece of wire.

“I was scared, but I grabbed some wire and killed the snake.”

Sifelani said he was happy to have helped the pastor and believed his deeds of heroism would open doors for him in heaven.
