VICTORIA Mtimkulu received an early Valentine’s Day gift last Wednesday when she opened a bag of potatoes and pulled out one shaped like a heart!
The 26-year-old from Finetown in Joburg, who sells fast food, said she was preparing to make chips when she found the potato.
“I was very surprised. I immediately put it on the counter to display to my customers,” she said.
She told Daily Sun it was hilarious to hear what the potato looked like to some of her customers.
“Some call it a bum, while others say it is shaped like a pair of conjoined breasts. I don’t think I will eat it. It’s a uniquely shaped potato,” she said. “People tell me I should consider painting it red for Valentine’s Day. It’s a sign from God to say there is still love. We need to love each other to build our communities.”
Mantwa Mthethwa (26), Victoria’s friend, said she would buy it as a Valentine’s Day gift for her boyfriend.
When customer Innocent Finxa was shown the potato he said: “It’s amazing. I’ve never seen one like it. If I bought it for my wife she would think I got someone to make it for her.”
Victoria’s husband, Johannes Maseko (47), called it a divine sign. “It is really a sign of love because I wasn’t expecting it. I bought the bag of potatoes and when she showed it to me I was happy. The potato showed me that she is the one for me and since we have found it our love has grown stronger.
“I will never sell it. I want to paint it and keep it as a memory of the day we found it,” he said.
