SUNLANDERS entered Daily Sun’s Win-A-Sheep competition in their thousands, and this past weekend the lucky winners received their woolly prizes!

Seven lucky SunReaders each walked away with a sheep, ensuring that they will have a Christmas feast to be remembered.

The handing over of the prizes took place at Lenasia Livestock, south of Joburg, which saw winners choose their own sheep to take home.

The People’s Paper had run the Christmas feast competition for the past month, and this was just the first round of the sheep give-aways.

The next giveaway will happen next month.

Winner Steven Maoto (54) said his sheep would provide a feast for his family and ancestors.

“I have three children. This prize is helping me to save money I would have spent on meat for the festive season.

“I am taking it alive as I want to do a ritual with it.

“I’d like to thank Daily Sun for such a great Christmas present,” said Steven, from Mohlakeng in Randfontein.

Another feast winner is Nopinki Ngwenya from Protea in Soweto.

She said she was a first-time winner.

“This is the first time I entered the Daily Sun feast competition – and I won!

“I will save a lot of money over the festive season because the meat department has already been dealt with.

“Thank you, Daily Sun. You really made our festive season a great one,” said Nopinki.

Nopinki came with her happy husband, Vusi Ngwenya, to collect the sheep.

Members of the SPCA were also on hand to ensure that all the animals were treated well.

Xolani Nncube of the SPCA said sheep should be transported to their destinations in a van that had open windows so that they did not suffocate.

“A sheep should not be tied, to ensure good blood flow, and it may not be transported in the boot of a car,” said Xolani.
