A Limpopo woman who landed a top job using fake qualifications has been sent to jail.

Director for Water Services at Mopani District Municipality Itumeleng Charmaine Letwaba (34) was found guilty for contravening section 66 (2) of the Higher Education Act 101 of 1997 by the Tzaneen Regional Court .

During 2009 the accused applied for the post of Director of Water Services at Mopani District Municipality.

Ledwaba joined the municiplaity in November 2009 when she was appointed as the project manager and in July 2012 as the Director of Water Services, with an annual salary of more than R2 million.

After her appointment, the municipality noticed some irregularities on her qualifications and alerted the  Hawks.

HAWKS spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said  investigation was conducted and revealed that Letwaba’s diploma was false.

He said she had used the very same qualification in her previous job at Ephraim Mogale Municipality in Marble hall where she was appointed as a project manager.

Letwaba was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment,  half of which is suspended for 5 years by the Tzaneen Regional Court on conditions that she is not found guilty of fraud, forgery, uttering or contravening section 66(2) of the Higher Education Act 101 of 1997 during the suspension period.
