STEMER Phatlane (50) suffered a savage attack that saw his head bashed in and his scrotum ripped open, leaving his balls hanging outside.

The brave man hung on for dear life.

He could barely speak but managed to whisper the name of his assailant to his sister, Mercy Phatlane (57), as he lay in hospital.

On Saturday, two months after the attack, he lost his battle for survival.

Now Stemer’s family are demanding that the cops do their job and bust the suspect.

Stemer’s nephew, Matlatse Phatlane (29), said his uncle was severely beaten and was found lying naked in a pool of blood on the street by a passerby.

Matlatse, from Vaalbank section B near Siyabuswa in Mpumalanga, said after they were alerted to the incident they rushed to the scene, where they found his uncle still alive.

“His attackers left him for dead.

“They wanted his private parts but only managed to get away with the skin.”

Matlatse said they took Stemer to the clinic and he was rushed to Mmamethlake Hospital by ambulance.

“The attacker is well known but is still free,” added Mercy.

“My brother was drunk and the attackers saw the opportunity to beat him and try to cut off his private parts.

“We suspect this was done for muthi purposes.”

Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said police have opened an inquest docket for investigation.

“No one has been arrested yet,” he said. “Anyone with information should please contact Captain Nixon Matlou on 082 303 9919.”
