THE RADEBE family paid the sangoma
R3 000 to perform rituals and find the evil muthi buried in their yard.
But when sangoma Eric told them to look away, a suspicious family member watched him carefully.
THE SANGOMA WAS CAUGHT TAKING A GOAT’S HORN OUT OF HIS PANTS.
Elizabeth Ramotso (42) told Daily Sun many prophets,
pastors and sangomas have been telling her family that there is muthi planted in their yard.
“Then I heard about sangoma Eric and I went to see him on Sunday last week,” said Elizabeth.
“He told us that there was muthi in the house making us suffer and he told us he would come and dig it up.”
She said they paid him the money because they were desperate.
According to Gladys Radebe (72) from Meadowlands, Soweto, December is a month of tears for the Radebe family.
“Every year, when people celebrate Christmas we are on the mattress mourning the loss of a family member,” she said.
Elizabeth said the sangoma came to the house and told them to look away while he was busy.
“When the sangoma started digging, he told us all to look down,” said Elizabeth.
But Elizabeth, who was desperate enough to try and get help, was also not stupid enough to be scammed.
“I didn’t listen to the order and I looked at what he was doing,” she said.
“I watched him digging a hole but then I saw him putting his hand into his underpants. Then he pulled out a goat’s horn and threw it into the hole.”
Elizabeth had seen enough.
“I stopped him and called everyone to come and look. I also called other family members who were not present to see the crooked sangoma,” she said.
Daily Sun witnessed sangoma Eric Mathenjwa (29) paying back the money and confessing to the family that he had lied.
“Yes I brought the horn. But it was a mistake,” he said with his head bowed.
“I have been a sangoma for three years but this is the first lie I have ever told.”
Mthimande Ngwenya of the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities, said sangoma Eric will be taken for a disciplinary hearing and if found guilty of misconduct, they will lay charges of false pretence against him.
