ONLY an evil, heartless human being could use the tragedy of Prosper Mathe for fun or profit.

After the story of the three-year-old with the distorted mouth appeared in Daily Sun, a man created a Facebook page, claiming to be Prosper’s father.

The little boy’s history is sad. His tongue started growing fast and it had to be cut shorter in an operation. But then his lip started getting bigger and bigger.

His parents, Gilfred Mathe (22) and mother Moditor Shoko (20), came to the People’s Paper asking for financial help for the operation.

The story appeared in Daily Sun and many people wrote to offer their sympathy. Even doctors offered to help.

But then an evil scammer stepped in.

Readers told Daily Sun that a man claiming to be the boy’s father had posted a picture of himself and Prosper on Facebook.

The SunTeam looked for and found the Facebook page.

“Please pray for my baby. If you are not ashamed click Like. Do not ignore. Comment Amen,” says the caption.

The picture has had more than 3 000 comments, 5 000 likes and 300 shares.

A reader, Jabulani Sithole (42), said he tried to contact the person in the hope of making a donation.

“But I went back to check the People’s Paper and I realised it was not the father,” he said. Another Facebook user said she thought it was the father.

“If I had money I would have tried to help him.”

Gilfred said he was saddened that someone would abuse their son like this.

At the time of the story, plastic surgeon Doctor Kelly Martin had told Daily Sun he took the family’s details.

Gilfred said they were contacted by Dr Martin and things looked promising, but the boy had not been operated on yet.
