ANC leader Cyril Ramaphosa has suggested that President Jacob Zuma’s exit is being negotiated.

But he insisted this should not be done in a manner that humiliates Zuma.

Rumours have been flying ahead of the new NEC’s first meeting, with many claiming Zuma’s exit will be discussed.

In a television interview broadcast on Sunday, Ramaphosa said Zuma’s exit should be handled in a mature manner.

He described the matter as delicate and claimed many rumours were fuelled by media analysis.

“I am saying we should never humiliate President Zuma,” he said

“He is a deployee of the ANC. The leadership of the ANC will deal with this matter.

“We should advance interests of the country, and not those of the individual.

“The ANC will deal with matters involving its deployees, be it President
Zuma’s deployment or mine.

“We would like you to know this is the approach we are going to take.”

Speaking about state capture, he said he had a long talk with Zuma and asked him to set up a commission to probe allegations.

The commission’s terms of reference were being settled but should be framed within former public protector Thuli Madonsela’s report, he said..

“We need to get to the bottom of state capture so it doesn’t happen again. We must know what it was all about and what it has done to our institutions.”
