THE Tshwane mayoral house has been opened to the market!
Last month, Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga announced that he will put the mayoral house up for sale.
Daily Sun Spoke to Sam Mgobozi, spokesperson to Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga.
Mgobozi said that the house was opened to the market on 22 October.
He said the proceeds will be used to build 40 to 50 houses.
“The renovations were not done according to the law. The renovations were done dubiously and unethically.”
“It is an issue of ensuring that people benefit from the money that is theirs; so we are simply taking from the people and giving to the people,” Msimanga said.
The double-storey house in Muckleneuk has four bedrooms (two of them with en-suite bathrooms), a double garage and a third garage with a storage room.
It also has a patio, balconies, an entertainment area, two workers’ quarters and a swimming pool.
“While the motion to sell the property was delayed, we are pleased that Council’s decision will advance the process to get rid of the mansion which we have long believed is unnecessary,” Msimanga said in a statement.
“While the previous ANC administration spent R12 million to “renovate” the house, the latest valuation on the property indicates that the property can be sold for a minimum amount of R5 million.
“Despite the amount spent on the renovations, the valuators have uncovered defects including surface cracks on exterior and interior walls and clear evidence that the money meant to enhance the house went to the pockets of the few,” the statement said.
