THE family of a prominent KZN politician is crying foul, claiming the member of the provincial legislature is causing havoc and spilling blood.
The troubled family from KwaHlaza near Howick, in the KZN Midlands, believes their relative (51) is causing the trouble because he wants his late father’s belongings.
The family claims the politician and a group of men attacked them with pangas on Tuesday.
They also claim the man stormed into his stepmum’s house on Monday, tore off the roof and left the occupants in a damaged house.
A family member (26) told Daily Sun the man injured his brother’s head with a crowbar.
“We appeal to the KZN Department of Community Safety to intervene.”
The family member said the trouble started in 2015 after his father died and left behind 20 wives, 76 children and a church. This man tried to evict his stepmothers and their children from their homes.
“As a result, some family members have fled the village,” said the relative.
KZN community safety spokesman Sipho Khumalo referred the People’s Paper to one of the department’s top officials for comment.
The official said they are aware of the incident and are still following up on the matter.
KZN police spokeswoman Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said cases of assault, malicious damage to property and pointing of a firearm were opened at Taylor’s Halt Police Station.
“No arrest has been made at this stage.”
Daily Sun’s attempts to get comment from the politician were unsuccessful.
His cellphone was on voice mail and it did not give the option to leave a voice message.
He did not respond to two messages sent by the SunTeam.
