BEER bottles and stones flew in Soshanguve on Sunday.

This was after the angry residents of extension 4 attacked Tshwane Metro police who were patrolling in the area.

Protesting residents barricaded the streets with burning tyres, rubbish and metal sheets.

The police acted swiftly and dispersed them.

This move did not go down well with the residents and they retaliated by attacking the police.

Some even went as far as using slingshots.

The people were demanding that the municipality install electricity in their area.

They said they were tired of living in the dark.

According to the residents, they have been living in the area for a long time and it was their right to have electricity.

One of the residents said they decided to take their fight to the streets to get attention from the government.

The resident told the police that they were not fighting with them but were demanding service delivery from the municipality.

“We are not fighting with you guys. We just want electricity.

“We have been living in this place for too long now,” said a resident.

The police did not retaliate and the crowd dispersed at the end of the day. No one was reported injured during the protest.
