COPS have been accused of dragging their feet in investigating one of their own.

A top cop stationed in Khuma near Stilfontein in North West allegedly caused an accident on 12 August while driving a police car.

The other party in the accident, Phakiso Mphehlo, told Daily Sun he was driving a Nissan 1 Tonner bakkie on a straight road, passing a T-junction, when a policewoman driving an unmarked Nissan Hardbody failed to stop. He said her car T-boned his bakkie, injuring him.

“I work in the timber industry,” he said. “I was helped by my client to buy the bakkie so we could work together and now it’s damaged. I want the police to fix my bakkie and investigate the case.

“If it was me who was wrong, I would have been arrested.”

Cops said they were investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving against their officer and she would face an internal disciplinary hearing.

Lieutenant-Colonel Amanda Funani said internal investigations would determine whether the cop was under the influence of liquor or in the wrong.
