A man lies bleeding after angry residents beat him in Nsimbini.

THIS man drank heavily at a traditional ceremony – but he wanted more.

So after the feast, for which two cows were slaughtered, he followed madala Nyakanyaka Mkhize (78) home, demanding booze.

But the madala wouldn’t let him into his house in Nsimbini near Folweni, Durban.

That’s when the greedy thug in his early 30s flew into a rage and stabbed the madala in the face with a broken bottle.

Cops looked for the phuza thug in vain, but angry residents found him. They beat him until he passed out, bleeding.

Thembinkosi Madlala (25) said there was plenty of drinking at the Duma family feast on Sunday.

But the thug wanted more and wouldn’t take no for an answer.

After the man stabbed the madala he ran away.

Nyakanyaka collapsed bleeding in his yard while trying to catch him. Nyakanyaka’s brother from Umlazi rushed him to a hospital in Isipingo.

“Police couldn’t find the thug, but angry residents got hold of him near his rented shack.

“They beat him until he collapsed,” said Thembinkosi.

When Folweni cops came he was lying in a pool of blood.

“They threw the thug in the back of their van. I heard he was under police guard at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital in Umlazi,” Thembinkosi said.

Major Thulani Zwane said: “There is a man in hospital who was assaulted by members of the community.

“The motive for the assault is unknown and a skeleton docket has been opened by police pending the complainant’s
statement.”
