The Interstate bus drove into the Tiger River but did not overturn.

THEY screamed in shock, thinking their last day on earth had come when the bus they were travelling in fell into the water.

But even though these commuters did not reach their destiny, they were all lucky to escape without any injuries.

About 40 people were on an Interstate bus that was travelling from the Thaba Nchu depot to Merino Trust in Thaba Nchu when the accident happened on Sunday morning.

One of the passengers, Mamohapi Mawala (39), said they were sitting quietly, enjoying their journey when suddenly the bus started to swerve.

The driver lost control and drove into the Tiger River.

Mamohapi said: “The bus drove over a bridge.

Luckily the herdsmen who were not far from the bridge managed to help us get out of the

water.”

Another passenger said they prayed for their survival and when the bus stopped, everyone thought the bus would sink, but luckily they all managed to escape safely.

Interstate Bus lines spokeswoman Thando Lepele said they were investigating the cause of the accident.

She confirmed that no one was injured.
