Gogo Phephu Jayela died before her dream of owning a house could come true.

But today gogo is smiling as she lays in her grave, happy that her dream has come true.

Her tombstone is inside a beautiful house her daughters built for her.

Gogo Phephu Jayela had spent her life as a farmworker in the Giyani area in Limpopo, living in Ntomu Village. She died at the age of 89 while her RDP was being built.

But her six daughters knew very well that she dreamt of owning a brick house and they have worked very hard to give their mother what she always wanted.

Last month they erected a tombstone on her grave and built a one-roomed house around her grave.

One of Jayela’s daughters, Asnath Nkuna (42), said people are amazed by what they have done for their mother.

“Our mother worked hard to raise us under very difficult conditions,” said Asnath.

“The siblings have come together and we are making sure that even in death her dream is realised and she will sleep in a decent house forever.”

Asnath added her mother grew up under severe conditions as a farmworker and she never had peace in her life because of the poverty.

“We hope now she will have peace. Although she is in the grave, we have managed to make her dream come true.”

Another sister, Ivy, said her mother was very excited when she was told she would receive an RDP, but she died before it was completed.

The one-roomed house is fitted with two sliding doors, windows and a tombstone.

“This is an amazing thing. We have never seen anything like this in our area,” said a local resident.
