ANGRY residents of Caleb Motshabi squatter camp barricaded the road on Sunday afternoon.
They said their councillor, Johannes Majara, is a liar.
Residents claimed Majara often swears at them and doesn’t attend meetings.
They complained about the lack of services in the area and demanded RDP houses.
Majara was fetched by cops at his home after the residents demanded to see him.
Molefi Tjela (35) claimed the councillor once said their girlfriends and wives smelt bad.
“How can a councillor say women who live in shacks smell bad and he wouldn’t talk to them?
“He is a liar and we are fed up with his lies,” Molefi told the People’s Paper.
“We’ve been living in the area for six years but we still don’t have proper houses.
“All we hear from Majara are empty promises. Enough is enough!
“We’re tired of living in shacks and we demand houses.”
Majara told residents that Human Settlements officials would visit them the next day.
“We are heading for the 2019 election and everyone should have a valid home address,” Majara told the residents.
“You won’t be living here after October this year.”
Majara has denied the residents’ allegations.
He told Daily Sun: “I’ve never said women from the squatter camp smelt bad.
“In fact, these residents often threaten to beat me to death.
“I’ve been helping the community and getting some of them work in different projects.”
