GOGO Nonhi Mali is lucky to still have her eyesight.
The 71-year-old from Brown’s Farm squatter camp in Philippi, Cape Town claims her late brother’s nyatsi stabbed her in her eye after accusing her of spending her son’s grant.
The incident took place a month ago at the gogo’s home.
“Is this the thanks I get for raising the son she did not want for seven years?” asked the gogo.
“I spent two weeks in hospital after she stabbed me.
“This all started when I asked her to buy food for her son when she receives his grant.
“However, she only did that once and I had to report her to social workers.
“I am old and unemployed.
“What does she expect her child to eat?” asked gogo Noli.
Speaking of the attack, she claimed: “She came to my house saying I was spending her child’s money.
“I told her she was talking rubbish.
“I was in my room when she came in and attacked me with a broken bottle.
“She went straight for my face.”
When the SunTeam called the attacker, she said: “She is lying.
“She is the one spending my child’s money.
“When I told her to give me my child’s money, she was rude to me.
“That’s why I attacked her,” she said.
Western Cape police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk said cops are investigating the matter.
“A case of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm was opened for investigation.
“However, an arrest has not been made yet.”
