YESTERDAY was a sad day for Shikisha presenter Ntombi Mzolo when her baby boy lost his battle with a rare heart condition.
Ntombi confirmed to Daily Sun that her son died at Netcare Sunninghill Hospital while in the ICU.
The child was born just a month ago.
Ntombi had previously told the People’s Paper that she had put all her trust in God, despite doctors advising her to consider terminating the pregnancy at seven months as they said the baby would have little to no chance of survival.
Ntombi told Daily Sun yesterday: “I didn’t ever want to let him go. He was my little angel. But I did everything I could. I gave him all the love, but it was God’s grace and I feel at peace with it now.”
She said she named him Dunamis, which is a Greek word meaning God’s miraculous power.
“My baby fought and he taught me so much. I am inspired by the strength that he had. At the end our wish was not aligned with God’s plans,” she said.
Dunamis was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome – a condition in which the left side of his heart didn’t develop properly, and couldn’t pump blood to the rest of his body. Ntombi was grateful for all the prayers she received from her family, friends and many people.
“There are so many people in a similar situation who reached out and told me how inspired they were by me. Some mothers at the hospital don’t have the support I got because their families are far away. I have to be strong for them and will continue to go to the hospital with my mum to pray for them,” said Ntombi.
Ntombi, the daughter of legendary maskandi star Ihashi Elimhlophe and Lena Khama, also has a three-year-old daughter with her husband, Sizwe Mzolo. She said funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised, but she hoped they would bury Dunamis tomorrow.
