GAUTENG Premier David Makhura has said he is committed to running a clean, accountable and transparent administration.
Speaking yesterday at the budget vote for the 2016/2017 financial year in the Gauteng provincial legislature, he said he would be taking disciplinary action against officials found guilty of financial misconduct.
The premier was joined by human settlements MEC Paul Mashatile, who said a unit had been established in the office of the premier to assist in anti-corruption activities across Gauteng.
Makhura said government needs to develop cities in a way that offered a good quality of life to residents.
“The budget of Joburg is more than R50 billion, while Ekurhuleni’s budget is just over R40 billion.
“This is a clear indication that the ANC in Gauteng continues to lead,” he said.
Makhura said it was necessary for municipalities in the region to bring people together and help them access opportunities. This meant there was a need for good leadership in the Gauteng city region
Mashatile said since 2014, the Ntirhisano service delivery system had been radically shifting the way government served and engaged with people.
“Through Ntirhisano’s proactive approach to problem solving, we are restoring the level of trust and public confidence in government.”
