Nine men accused of gang raping a 13-year-old girl in Nyanga submitted affidavits to court yesterday to motivate why they should be released on bail.
The affidavits were handed in at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court. The State was expected to respond to their bail application on February 1.
The men are accused of repeatedly raping a 13-year-old girl in a shack in Nyanga on November 11.
Police said the teenager had been walking alone on Robert Sobukwe Road around 20:00 when a man abducted her. He took her to a shack where he and his friends repeatedly raped her.
She was held overnight and released the next day.
The ninth man was arrested last week after returning to the province from a long stint in the Eastern Cape.
His co-accused are aged between 18 and 20.
