THE American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has offered a R121 000 reward for a wanted South African man.
The FBI issued a statement on their website on Wednesday in an effort to track down Barrett Busschau, who was arrested in 1993 on multiple sex charges involving children.
“The FBI is running Facebook ads in both the Portland-metro area and in South Africa, where he may be living.
In addition, the FBI Laboratory has produced an age-progressed photo of what Busschau may look like now, and the FBI is profiling Busschau’s case on its fugitive website,” the statement reads.
Busscachu (42) was born in Mzansi and moved to the United States in 1984.
He was indicted by a grand jury for the alleged molestation of five girls between the ages of 10 and 15, according to the FBI.
He was charged with first-degree sexual penetration with a foreign object, first-degree sexual abuse, third-degree sodomy, third-degree rape and third-degree sex abuse.
He was due to appear in court for trial, but fled the country before his next appearance.
He was indicted the next year for failing to appear in court.
He was also labeled a fugitive after the FBI obtained a federal fugitive warrant under the Unlawful Flight to Avoid Persecution charge.
The FBI calls on anyone who may have information on his whereabouts to contact the American Embassy in South Africa on 012 431 4000, or alternatively visit the FBI website.
