FINANCE Minister Pravin Gordhan has denied any personal knowledge of his deputy being offered his position by the Gupta family.

Gordhan was addressing journalists at the JSE in Sandton, Joburg yesterday where he gave a report back on the roadshow that government, business and labour representatives held in London, Boston and New York last week.

When asked about the allegations, Gordhan who initially said he would remain silent, stated: “My silence tells it all.”

But when pushed further, he added: “I have no personal knowledge of that so there is nothing I can tell you.”

Gordhan said he would like to assure ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte that a senior official quoted in a weekend newspaper that she offered his deputy Mcebisi Jonas the job would be dealt with if found out.

Gordhan expressed his concern that a second letter to him by the Hawks to answer 27 questions was leaked to the media.

“Why leak it? Why not hold a press conference with the facts?” he questioned.

About his overseas delegation meeting with 250 investors, Gordhan said: “The key message is that the world is watching South Africa very carefully.”
