WHEN Portia Kubayi (20) of Mamelodi went missing, everyone was worried.
Residents went out to search for her. Her mum Johanna Kubayi (56) spent sleepless nights, worried sick whether she was dead or alive.
Daily Sun published her story on 18 July. Portia went “missing” on 9 July after her mother left for church, leaving her at home with her brother.
But while her mum was worried about her, she was at her boyfriend’s place, not far from her home.
The worried mum said she blamed herself for her daughter’s disappearance but now she realised that her daughter had made plans to spend time with her boyfriend all along.
The day she disappeared, Johanna had asked her to go to church with her but she refused.
The sad mum told Daily Sun that her daughter’s actions were disappointing but she was relieved that she was okay.
“I was terrified that something bad had happened to her. She should have told me where she was and that she was safe,” she said.
Portia came back home after the story was published.
Mamelodi police spokesman Captain Johannes Maheso said the missing person’s case was closed as Portia had returned home and was in no danger.
