ANGRY people in Zoeknog Trust in Acornhoek, Mpumalanga, have burned a murder suspect alive.

The 31-year-old-man was a suspect in a murder case in which a 16-year-old girl was raped before being stabbed to death on 7 January.

Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said local police received information on Saturday that a man was being burned alive and they quickly responded, only to find the victim already dead.

Lieutenant-General Mondli Zuma pleaded with residents not to take the law into their hands, no matter how strongly they may feel.

He said people should co-operate with the police and courts so criminals are removed from society.

A murder case has been opened but no one has been arrested.

Anyone with information can call Lieutenant Sipho Nkambule on 082 469 1031 or the police CrimeStop number 08600 10111.

  • Job Ratsela (45) and Calvin Maluleka (54) will reappear in the Mbibane Magistrates Court in Siyabuswa on Tuesday.

They will be attending their bail hearing after they allegedly murdered a 12-year-old girl at Mmametlhake last year.

Police said a passerby found the girl’s body dumped in the bush.

Hlathi said she was reportedly last seen by her family at 11.30pm on 9 December. Her body was found by a passerby searching the bush for his livestock.

He said her naked body was found with serious scars and balanced on a tree. A small part of the tongue was missing.

Hlathi reminded people that people should be reported missing as soon as possible. “People need no longer wait 24 hours before reporting it, as that makes it more difficult to find or rescue a missing victim.”
