THE residents say their municipality fails to deal with unemployment and service delivery.

On Wednesday, Mogwase residents in North West decided they’d had enough and prevented workers from entering the Moses Kotane municipal offices.

They said they were tired of being given the runaround.

They wanted Local Government MEC Galaletsang Gaolaolwe or Premier Supra Mahumapelo to meet them.

They claimed the municipality gave jobs to incompetent people and unnecessarily outsourced tasks.

People woke up at 3am to get to the municipal gates before employees could enter and threatened to stone vehicles.

Community leader Gotse Matebesi said they spoke to mayor Ralesole Diale but he didn’t offer solutions.

“Our task team learnt that the municipality completely outsourced its IT division to a company called Big Time. Useless staff were employed. Service providers took over responsibilities that could have gone to competent staff.”

Municipal spokeswoman Beauty Makganye said claims that people without qualifications were given jobs were untrue.

“Positions are advertised and people apply. Qualifications are looked into and a relevant recruitment process takes place. Candidates are shortlisted after interviews,” she said.
