MEMBERS of Faith Church are very unhappy with their pastor.

They’ve even taken to calling her Moruti R1 500, as she apparently charges R1 500 for everything from baptisms to special prayers.

A member of the church in Diepkloof, Soweto told Daily Sun: “If you don’t have that amount of money, she won’t help you.”

A member of the congregation said the pastor wouldn’t baptise her child without being paid. “The pastor told me I must go and borrow the money from the mashonisa because she wouldn’t do it otherwise.”

When the SunTeam phoned the pastor, she confirmed she charged R1 500 for her services but said she didn’t have to explain herself.

“Did I call you and tell you about the charges? The answer is no. So call those who contacted you and ask them questions.”

Pastor Ncebo Mazibuko of the Faith in Christ Bible Church said what the pastor is doing is wrong.

“In Matthew chapter 10, verse eight, it says: ‘heal the sick, raise the demons, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give’.”

Pastor Theo Mthonti of the Holy Ethiopian Catholic Church in Zion said leaders like this gave religion a bad name. He said: “Such pastors need to be rooted out.”
