FORMER Eskom CEO Brian Molefe has received a lot of backlash after reports that he was appointed as a military colonel.
According to the City Press, Molefe earns R57 000 a month even though he has no military background.
Speaking to EWN, the South African National Defence Union (Sandu) said Molefe doesn’t qualify to be appointed in the reserve force services in terms of the Defence Act.
"He’s an honourary colonel and he has never had military training of any sort, so the Defence Act prohibits his appointment," South African National Defence Union's Pikkie Greeff said.
Meanwhile, the South African Security Forces Union (SASFU) has called on President Jacob Zuma to investigate and reverse the military's appointment of Molefe.
In a statement, Sasfu president Charles Jacobs said Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula had to reverse the decision and recover all monies paid to Molefe.
"As well as launch an investigation into the matter, taking appropriate action." Jacobs said.
