WHEN a young man broke into a shack he didn’t know pupils were watching him.
Soon residents of Hans Kekana View in Hammanskraal were pulling him out of a wardrobe to give him the beating of his life.
When he pleaded for mercy, they demanded to know who sent him.
He said a man sent him to steal an amplifier.
While residents were beating him, a man stabbed him in the face, claiming the suspect stole from him too.
Police and paramedics rescued the young man and took him away.
Resident Joel Mogorosi said the shack belonged to the Mkhondo family.
Catherine Mkhondo said when she rushed home, she found her house turned upside down.
“The suspect was beaten so badly he couldn’t walk or speak. He was bleeding heavily,” she said.
A resident told Daily Sun: “Anybody who plans to steal from our homes should know that if we catch him, he won’t go home alive.”
Constable Herman Moremi said: “The man was taken to hospital where he is under police guard. He will be charged with attempted housebreaking when he is discharged.”
Moremi said people shouldn’t take the law into their hands as it was a criminal offence.
He called on people to make citizen arrests and call the police.
“They should know that when they assault a suspect, he has the right to open a case against them,” Moremi said.
