THE video of racing taxi drivers that caused an uproar on social media has been slammed by government.

The hype caused by the video taken in Kyalami, northern Joburg, created a social frenzy on social platforms.

Government MECs expressed shock at the video.

Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane said she condemned with contempt the reckless driving and conduct by taxi drivers on Gauteng roads.

Joburg Metro cop spokesman Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said they were looking for the culprits in the video.

“The drivers could be charged with reckless and negligent driving. If it is established that they were racing with intent, the charges could go further,” said Minnaar.
