LIMPOPO MEC for agriculture and ANC Women’s League chairwoman Joy Matshoge has died.
Her body was found a few metres away from her BMW X5 after it swerved off the road, went through a farm fence and smashed into a tree on the N1 South near Nyl Plaza in Mokopane, Limpopo on Saturday evening.
Limpopo government spokesman Phuti Seloba said: “The information we received is that she lost control of the vehicle. We learned she was travelling from Polokwane to Gauteng.”
ANC Limpopo secretary Nocks Seabi said Matshoge was a committed member of the ANC who played a critical role in the struggle for gender equality.
“In her honour the PEC will continue with the election programme activities in Waterberg, including a rally with Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa at Ephraim Mogale Stadium in Modimolle,” he said.
The ANC Women’s League said: “We would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to the Matshoge family, friends and relatives during this difficult moment.
“Comrade Joy was a fearless yet humble leader of our movement. Her untimely death has robbed us of a disciplined, dedicated cadre of our revolution.”
Limpopo’s Premier Stan Mathabatha said Matshoge was a seasoned leader and convener of the ANC after its PEC was disbanded in 2013. The DA in Limpopo also conveyed its condolences to the Matshoge family. “We will remember MEC Matshoge for her contribution towards the empowerment of women in agriculture,” said Limpopo DA leader Jacques Smalle.
