RESIDENTS of Klipspruit extension 11 and Pimville in Soweto lashed out at Joburg mayor Herman Mashaba yesterday.
They claimed there was a lack of service delivery in their kasis.
Residents claim they were angry because they were not included in an RDP project and disrupted the mayor’s speech after the new houses had electricity connected.
Mashaba wouldn’t allow residents to ask questions following a media briefing in Klipspruit, but added the municipality was committed to improving the wellbeing of residents in the city.
He said: “Residents will enjoy the benefits of having electricity. I’m pleased to say the city has fast tracked service delivery to kasis in need.”
Patricia Zulu (76) believed residents of Pimville were not included in the RDP project.
“These houses were only given to residents of Kliptown and Klipspruit,” she said.
Patricia claimed no one was given title deeds for the new houses in the area and said she was not happy with the progress so far.
Luyanda Mfeka, acting spokesman for the mayor’s office, said: “A plan will be introduced to allow the public to speak. It is unlike the mayor not to allow people to comment.”
