EMFULENI mayor Simon Mofokeng is keeping a close eye on the progress of infrastructure projects.
He will travel around Emfuleni as part of a service delivery strategy called “Getting the Basics Right: Our Programme for Restoration.”
Since the local government elections in August, the mayor has visited the following projects:
- Nguna Street in zone 7 of Sebokeng, where a road and brige are being built.
- The construction of Bishop Bird Road in Palm Springs.
- The construction of Moedi School in Sharpeville.
- The construction of Donna Road in Evaton.
- The construction of Bophelong Early Childhood Development Centre.
Mofokeng said the community should take ownership of projects.
This was after parts of a waste transfer station in zone 7 of Sebokeng were vandalised.
Geysers, electricity distribution boards and wiring were stolen.
The windows at the station were also broken.
“I have also seen projects delayed by construction companies contracted to the municipality.
“This is where we will be stepping in.
“When projects are in the hands of passionate municipal workers, service delivery should be responsive and continuous.
“I was equally disappointed to learn there are hooligans trying their best to disrupt our projects or put them on hold with false excuses of public protests.”
