THE teenager and his soccer team used to pass by a mlungu’s house on their way to their soccer field without any problems.

But on Friday afternoon all hell broke loose when the mlungu allegedly opened fire on the teenagers, sending them running in all directions!

The teenager told Daily Sun when he finally stopped running from the mlungu’s house, which is surrounded by shacks and RDPs, he realised he had been shot in the left arm.

The 14-year-old from Davel near Ermelo in Mpumalanga was rushed to the police station and then to Bethal Hospital. Doctors immediately transferred him to Witbank Hospital for treatment.

Constable Portia Nkosi confirmed that a 76-year-old man was arrested and appeared in the Ermelo Magistrates Court on Monday. He was charged with attempted murder.

“We established the suspect used a pellet gun. Doctors said if the boy had not been rushed to hospital immediately, he could have died as a vein was hit,” she said. The suspect was released on R2 500 bail and will appear in court again on 10 December.
