THE whistles were blown by residents and the next moment, the house where Nthebe Nthebe (51) and his brother Morena Nthebe (48) live was full of angry residents carrying dangerous weapons.
The people were baying for the two men’s blood. They accused them of being gang members and brutally beat them.
When Daily Sun arrived at the scene at Phase 6 in Mangaung on Tuesday night, the windows of the Nthebe’s family house had been smashed. Nthebe and Morena were bleeding after being assaulted with stones and sticks.
Nthebe told Daily Sun: “Look what they have done to me and my brother.
“They wanted my son. They blame him for housebreaking in the kasi. They accused us of being gang members, but we are not.”
The cops responded before the house could be damaged further but residents were not happy to see them.
Armed with garden spades, stones and sticks, they shouted: “We want the man’s son. He has been terrorising us with break-ins and his parents help him!”
Nthebe’s daughter Moliehi Nthebe (26) said the residents were also accusing her mother of witchcraft.
“They destroyed our shop and have been on our case. They are accusing us of something we don’t know about. Now my father and uncle have been injured and the house windows and tiles damaged.
“My brother is not a gang member but a person who loves his school work. He does not even have a single tattoo on his body. I am glad the police came quickly,” said Moliehi.
Police spokeswoman Sergeant Ikobeng Hlubi said two men were arrested after the incident.
“The Bloemspruit police arrested the two men aged 25 and 41. They were charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and malicious damage to property.
“The suspects will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court soon,” said Hlubi.
