THUGS used to break into his spaza shop at night. And in an effort to protect his business, the owner put live electrical wires across the counter.
He switched the wires on at night and off during the day. But last Thursday tragedy struck when he allegedly forgot to switch them off.
The victim was Keamogetswe Mpaka (10) who had been sent to buy washing powder and flu medicine by her aunt. She collapsed after allegedly touching the counter.
Her aunt Matshepo Moropa said she was first on the scene after local children called her saying the girl had collapsed.
“I rushed to the shop and we took her to the clinic, but she was certified dead on arrival,” she said.
Her angry father, Innocent November, wants the police to take action against the shop owner.
“It was negligent of him to leave the live wire on knowing customers would be coming to the shop. At first he tried to deny my daughter was electrocuted and claimed she had a fit,” he said.
He added the family had a death certificate and forensic report proving Keamogetswe was electrocuted, which he showed to the SunTeam.
When Daily Sun approached shopkeeper Abram Mohammed he denied switching on the live wire that day. He said he had given her the items after she paid. But she collapsed afterwards.
The Actonville police have opened an inquest docket.
